Women in Engineering

When some people here engineering they think bridges dirty engines and hard hats but engineering is so much more. Engineers are essentially problem solvers. They use creativity collaboration maths and science to design and create almost every aspect of the world. We live in engineering really makes a difference. Our graduates have hidden infrastructure projects in developing countries. They've worked on groundbreaking medical technologies and are developing sustainable energy solutions engineers design and create the world. And it's important that everyone is represented in that process the faculty of engineering at the University of Auckland is committed to encouraging more women into engineering and wants to make sure their time at the university is great. We have the woman in the engineering network which runs social events and provides opportunities for networking and professional development and we also have a dedicated woman in engineering advisor. That's me but enough for me. Here's what some of our students have to say about their time with us. Studying in the Faculty of engineers will be fun because I think it's a really cohesive faculty it's really cool. Seeing how passionate saw the lecturers are about what they're teaching specially in first year classes to hear all the experiences and all of your own personal research they bring into your teaching they have a great organization called the woman in engineering network. And they're very supportive so they really value those female students. I came from an all-girls high school and I'd heard the stories about so many more boy than the engineering than girls. But when you sit down on your lecture theatres it's not a big deal you just get on with it we've got Michelle Dickinson Barney James and Roslyn Archer who are just really really brilliant lecturers and they just inspire me to sort of push more. Be better at engineering in five years. I could be working in any number of fields. I could be a researcher copying software.

Maybe i'll be in consultancy. Get a lot of exciting projects as well. We had a project in my fourth year when we got to design and test out a little robot that extinguishes miniature fires so it would detect the fire and go along and put it out and it was so much fun. Hello there. I'm a girl and I've got pretty long hair painted nails perfume on and a brand under here. I have a ticket like science so I'm studying this degree sure. I might number bye guys Rachel 32 out any I could have saved the whales or being a pro athlete but I said no thanks. I'd rather be a mathlete. Engineers don't just do math. How about bio or chem. We can design a hip replacement or process petroleum geometry. And trig that's all in the past now its Fourier transforms ODS and the plas blood always made me sick but still wanna help Society engineering. Lets me do that with all the subject. Variety don't need a study commerce to run a million-dollar show started off in the labs now on the path to see er thang forward to the future robot maids and flying cars our engineers could even design a spaceship to Mars to all you young girls listen only to your heart do what you want to do. It's never too late to start call me a tomboy org you see if I care cuz I'm so proud to be a girl engineer.
