Why publish in the Journal of Global Security Studies?
And i'll use my time to talk a little bit about the journal of global security studies because it is a new journal published by the international studies association so it's the newest isa journal and and it has a bit of a particular mission. Um which i put up on the screen for you that the idea behind this journal is that the field of security studies has grown a lot by um by kind of morphing in different ways people have challenged how to define security. What kinds of tools are best to to to research these questions um how to sort of think methodologically and even epistemologically about security and we are seeking articles that that speak across those different dimensions. Um and just to give you an example. Um you know there's been a lot of uh discussion about sort of more traditional security versus human security and um we are interested in articles that actually look at the way that human security goals or practices might actually affect traditional security concerns or vice versa. Um and so we're really looking at articles that sort of engage this this intersection not just between those two but between you know a variety of different ways that you might approach security so we take this mission pretty seriously. We have an editorial team that represents quite different parts of the field and we have an editorial board that represents quite different parts of the field. And we're really hoping that this conversation um will sort of push debates forward that are relevant to all the security uh journals um that provide a place for a particular kind of engagement with with different parts of the field we do have uh just one issue out so i can't say a lot about trends but i'll show you what's in it and you'll see there's there's a mix of scholars whose names you've heard people whose names you might not have heard um a variety of different perspectives but all of them bringing to bear sort of connections between different parts of the field challenges that may sort of change the way we think about things.
I'll just highlight one dan. Nixon and stacy goddard have a piece that challenge the state centrism of realism and yet very much. Embrace the idea of power politics and sort of think about how we might think about power politics if we're not just thinking about states as the powers that matter and and in doing that. They sort of connect into the literatures on contentious politics. Uh networks um a variety of other kinds of of literatures that may not get as much voice in the security studies field but may give us new insights.
