TUC Library: Article Linker
This is a recorded version of the library. Workshop presentation downloading articles this recording will show the tool article linker article linker is a search tool that provides a way to search all of the library's holdings whether they are in print or online for a single article it also provides links between databases to provide a wide range of digital access within the library's online holdings this illustration shows how the article linker search works doing a single article search and article linker automatically searches both the library's print journal collection and all of our online Holdings including all of our subscription databases. There are several ways to search article linker it can be searched using only a digital object identifier which is abbreviated do I or a pubmed. ID number abbreviated pmid. It can also be searched using an article citation and there is a linked article linker on the library's homepage. There are also some embedded links within our databases. We're going to look at article linker in the library's databases. I'm currently in the scopus database. And we're going to try the article linker button for the 4th result in my search. I clicked on the title of an article that looked interesting in my search results and now I'd like to get the full text but you can see there's not a full text button. We don't have access through this particular database but we might have subscribed to this journal in another package and what article linker will do in this case is it will look in all of the library's Holdings to see it. Perhaps we have digital access through another subscription. So we'll click that article linker button on the top right hand corner. In this case the library has subscribed to this journal through clinical key so it seamlessly linked me through using article linker from scopus to clinical key where i can download the PDF of this article if you're not searching in a database and instead maybe a colleague is sent you a citation or there's a reference in a paper that you'd like to look up you can also use the article linker tool to do that and you'll navigate back to the library website.
Click the article linker link and again you can search using several different methods you can use a DOI a PubMed ID or use information from the article citation in this case. I have the PubMed ID for an article and I've entered that in the search box and you can see again article linker sent me directly to clinical key where we have the full text available of this article and you can download it clicking the PDF icon and this is an example article from PubMed. I'm going to demonstrate what happens if you search for an article. An article linker and the library does not have access so you can see in this example record there is a digital object identifier at the top that you could use to search article linker you can also use the PubMed ID or you could use the title of the article and the journal title in this case again. I'm searching with a PubMed ID number I copied that out of the PubMed record and I put it in the search box and I've run the search and the library does not have access to this article in print or online in cases where we don't have access to an article you can click the interlibrary loan form link at the bottom of the screen and fill in the information for this article that sends a message to the library staff to let them know to request this article for you and interlibrary loans are unlimited. You can also access the interlibrary loan form through the library's main website under the services section. We hope that you enjoyed the video and found it useful as always.
