How to Write a Research Paper - IEW Writing Research Papers

Hi I'm Carrie Beckwith from school my child calm and I am sitting right there at our island where we have spent so many years and hours and days homeschooling and working on the home school and what I want to do today share a resource that I think would be very helpful for you if you are in the junior high high school ages. It's put out by excellence in writing. It's called writing research papers and you may go well. That sounds good but why should I listen to you. Carrie well I was called for 10 years and all 10 years. I've used excellence and writing products because they were the best writing products that I could find you see. I was a public school teacher for six years and I thought I had everything I needed because everything out there was very similar all I did was talk or teach what to write about and IEW changed my whole perspective because it gave me tools to improve my kids writing so it would teach kids how to write better. And that's exactly what writing research papers does this is a. It's actually a to manual a teacher's book and a student's book and it's by Lisa Myers. She's written some other products and I'll just show you. The very first page comes with a bonus it is some downloadable materials that are going to include quizzes. And things like that that you will be want to want to get grading sheets checklist and it will also give you something or student papers. At the beginning she gives a teachers a lot of backup information on how to get started just to methodology that. She's using but let it break down this curriculum into its three major parts. We have beginning research papers. We have intermediate research papers and advanced research papers in the beginning section. You are going to teach your students and your kids the different parts of a research paper and they will practice those parts like introduction and overview. They're going to practice writing and innard oh. I'm sorry that's the introduction to the course understanding the prom so that they can write a good introduction.

That's gonna be the first lesson. They're going to spend some time working on how to understand the prompt how to take notes. Plagiarism and citations. How do we quote correctly counter-arguments. How do we do that. And then start to come up with a thesis for paper and an outline so you see it's just like learning scales for music you know. Perform those skills at the recital but you do practice them so that you can build up and be able to play a masterpiece. And that's what she does. She goes through the different parts. And then the last three parts of this beginning section is actually writing your thesis so we have an intermediate research paper and again. We're going to go through the prompt. Then we're going to talk about online research and offline research. And how do we arrange all our information to persuade our reader to believe the point that we are trying to make and again outlining drafting incorporating some stylistic techniques the last section you see very short on advance in the teachers maintenance only a few pages. That's because the bulk of the advance is written directly to the student. You see in each section each chapter you. The teacher has a section that she will go through and the student has a section as well that's written directly to him so let's just look at this one understanding the prof. There's a lesson approach. The materials are going to be just an overview and we always have in each lesson the mini lecture and a modeling because modeling is so important. So your students actually see what they're doing and what you're doing and what you're trying to teach us and then it's gonna give the homework assignment throughout this and then deal with any kind of lesson. Specific issues in each section each chapter has it broken down very easily. Then here's another thing they're like if you see. This is this social networking working with topics that would be of interest to junior high and high school kids or middle school kids and high school kids so.

I really like what she's done here. A teacher just needs to be able to go through and follow the outline. She's going to tell you exactly how to model something and the homework that's expected and everything then in the students book you'll see we can go to a sex years integrated quotations and we have direct quotations. And she writes to the students. She explains some of the information that can look here from the teacher. Every chapter has a checklist and then the worksheets that are included in this teacher. Book as well but places and big enough space for you to actually practice that concept in the very back are some cheat sheets. She calls them teaching models but it basically says. Riya sick the day. The teacher went over a particular model. Where were you present below know about it or did you just miss it a couple of things. What she's done is given little models of what that chapter is about so basically a cheat sheet that the kids can go back and if it summarizes what they should learn from that particular lesson the other thing she does is. She includes her whole essay that she is written. That kids can read through and see the different points if she's trying to teach them in how to write the good research paper. Excellent information preparing you for college or even for life. My kids say they still use the concepts. They learned in iew in their college papers and then out of college as well. I think it's a great investment. You just buy this. You buy your teacher's meaning and you use it with many many students. If you're interested the page you're on probably has a place that you can go ahead and order a copy if you have any questions call or email me. I'm here to answer your questions and let's just see if this is a good fit for you if not replied something else. That's better for your situation. I've carried that with how to homeschool my child. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.
