Hi everyone and welcome to a short video to introduce you to the Carnegie Mellon University Libraries. My name is Sarah and I'm the librarian for the Heinz college and other departments and programs at CMU. We have three library. Locations hunt. Library is the library for social sciences and humanities. Sorel's library is on the fourth floor of Wien Hall it's the library for engineering and science and Mellon library for biology and chemistry is located at the Mellon Institute on the corner of Belfield and Fifth. Avenue's this is our homepage where you can access most of the information that you'll need about the library you can find information about our operating hours in the upper right hand corner and I encourage you to explore these various menus at the top where you'll find information about checking out books using printers and scanners in the library's reserving study rooms and much more to do a search of the library collection you can start with this main search box. It searches our books and ebooks as well as the contents of some journals and databases. This is a good place to start. If you're just exploring a topic when you run a search. Don't forget to sign in with your andrew. ID and password for complete results and functionality if you can't find what you're looking for you can request items from other libraries through interlibrary loan just go to the requesting items link under Quick Links to use interlibrary loan to borrow books or request journal articles that we don't have a lot of you may be studying from off-campus in this case you can access most of our resources just by starting at the library home page however you may choose to use the library. VPN or virtual private network instead instructions for accessing our resources off-campus can be found at the connecting from off-campus link under the using the libraries menu. Make sure you choose the library. VPN when signing in we also have many specialized research databases to help you find and access scholarly articles news business and market information statistics and data and much more to access library databases from the library homepage.

Click on research databases. You can explore our many databases by subject using this drop-down menu. If you're not sure where to start you can explore our research guides which will point you to the best resources for information on specific topics both library resources and publicly accessible ones to access the research guides go back to the library homepage and choose research guides under the menu on the right in the public policy guide for example you'll find direct links to the contents of newspapers like the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. You may also choose to use. Google Scholar to find scholarly articles one quick trick to get to CMU libraries full text resources through Google Scholar is to set up your library link settings just go to the settings from Google scholars homepage click on library links type Carnegie Mellon into the search box and choose it from the list save this and now you should see a full text at my library link that will get you more quickly to the resource you're looking for beyond the collections. The library also supports your work. In many other ways we can help you find datasets for research and apply best practices to managing the data that you collect and analyze we can provide guidance on conducting your research with an eye toward reproducibility and transparency. And we can help with data visualization using tools like tableau as well as GIS and when you're ready to publish your work we can help you understand your rights as authors and provide funding to help you publish and open access journals you can also use CMU's institutional repository killt hub to deposit your dissertation other manuscripts datasets posters and more to share your work widely. Finally keep an eye on our events and workshops page from the many workshops that we're offering this semester including help a citation manager like Mendeley and Zotero.
