Corsair Video FAQ: How to test a Corsair power supply
Hi Jeff here with Corsair today. I'm going to show you how to do. A basic power supply functionality test. It's a good test to run if you're experiencing issues such as your system doesn't power up when you go to turn it on or if it turns on and then immediately shuts itself right back off all you need for this test is a paperclip and I'll show you how to do it. We're going to use our HX 1,000 power supply for this test. Make sure that you disconnect your power supply from all the components in your system we do to have a case fan still connected and some power supplies may require a small amount of load nor order for it to power up so it's good to just have a case fan on there next. You want to make sure that the power supply is unplugged from the wall and also that the switch on the back is depressed on the zero side which is off so at this point. You'll want to locate your 24 pin motherboard. Connector you'll notice that there's a single green wire here there's just one green one on there and that's the one that we're going to be focusing on you'll want to take a regular paper clip. Bend it into a u-shape like so and bridge the green wire or the pin that leads to the green wire with any of the black wires. The black is the ground. And you can use any of the black wires on the same connector so should look just like that next. You want to plug the power supply back in and flip the standby switch on the back to the one side and your fans should power up. Put the fan on the power supply and our case fan is up and running so looks like our power. Supply is performing the way that it should. What we're doing here is emulating the motherboard signal the motherboard when you power on your system sends a signal to the power supply and tells it to power on if you have problems with your system booting up. This is a good way to rule out possibility that the power supply just isn't getting the signal from the motherboard. Hopefully your power supply fan is spinning in your case fan is spinning.
