Hi i'm carly a librarian at the university of alabama libraries this video will introduce you to conducting a citation analysis in scopus a citation analysis is a way of measuring the impact of an author or an article by counting the number of times that author or article has been cited by other works this video will walk you through how to conduct a citation analysis for an author and also for a specific article to access scopus select the databases link from the library's homepage find and select scopus from the a-z list to conduct a citation analysis for an author select the author tab and type in the name of the author select the author's name to view their author details page right away you can see that this author has published 6 articles and has been cited in 45 documents for a more in-depth breakdown of citations select view citation overview to see the citation counts for each article written by this author both the document title and cited counts take you to pages with additional information for example i can see which three articles cited the article social dynamics of legitimacy and justice in 2016. select back to author details to access more information about this author's citation analysis from this page you can also see that this author's h index and author impact metric is 4 as well as a graph depicting the dates of article publication and citation count for each year below the graph you can see a list of all six articles this author has published along with how many times each article has been cited both the document title and cited by number take you to pages with more information you can also see a list of all 45 documents that cite this author's work by selecting the cited by tab to conduct a citation analysis for a specific article select the documents tab and type in the title of the article for some titles you may need to provide additional information select the plus sign to add more content to your search you can see right away that this article has been cited six times for more detailed information check the box next to the article title and click the view citation overview link the citation overview shows the number of times this article has been cited each year both in graph and chart form from this page you can access each document that cited this article for example by selecting the total number i can access all six of the documents that have cited this article i could also see which document cited this article in 2019 that's all for now thanks for watching and i hope you found this helpful if you have any questions contact the library or visit ask.
