Beyond PubMed (Health Outcomes and Policy Video Series)


Hi I'm Ariel pump Usha's a reference and liaison librarian at the University of Florida Health Science Center libraries this video discusses literature databases beyond PubMed that may be useful to your research particularly those with relevant coverage for health outcomes and policy topics. We're discussing other databases because no single database has it all or even has everything on a specific topic you may be interested in for a comprehensive literature search of a search on interdisciplinary topics like those related to health outcomes and policy. You'll need to research across multiple databases to ensure that you're close to getting everything important out there on your topic. Of course it's impossible to show you've gotten everything. The main things to consider when choosing a database to search arts coverage and its search features coverage encompasses the subject areas that are included as well as the years publication types and geographic regions search features may include a controlled vocabulary like mash and PubMed different types of limits and filters specialized search fields cited reference searching and proximity searching among others. This kind of information is something that you can generally find from within the database by going to its help pages or the product information pages from the vendor or publisher the HS CL databases page provides access to all of the databases available to the UF community through the libraries get to the databases page from the Quick Links section on the Health Science Center library's website quick picks are the most frequently used databases in the Health Science Center you can get to more health-related databases under the all. HS CL databases link the all library databases. A to Z list link includes everything available through the broader UF Library System hundreds of databases covering the Sciences humanities and Social Sciences before we discuss databases for the specific health outcomes and policy focus.

Let's talk about web of science. A database that can be useful across a wide variety of topics. Web of science is a very broad database which includes the sciences so sciences arts and humanities it indexes over 12,000 journals which it identifies as high-impact as well as 160,000 conference proceedings many of its journals are indexed. Back to the 1900s the main feature that web of science is known for is its cited reference searching it also allows for proximity searching or finding certain words near each other on a title or abstract cited reference searching is essentially the ability to find out about and link to articles that have a societal particular article. Each article and mobile science has a citation count and that count is based on the number of times it's cited within journals indexed by the web of science the count then provides links to each article citing your chosen article. The record also contains a linked list of that articles references. So it's easy to follow up on those references. You can also sort your results by the number of times and articles in cited web of science is found in the Quick Pick section of the HSC aisle databases page cinahl are the cumulative index of nursing and allied health. Literature is another database. That is broadly useful in the health sciences. In addition to nursing cinahl covers such subject areas as physical therapy occupational therapy complementary medicine and consumer health while primarily includes article abstracts from journals it also contains some dissertations conference proceedings and book chapters. Cinahl does have a controlled vocabulary called cinahl headings which functions similarly to mesh and pubmed cinahl allows you to exclude pubmed recordings from your results. So if you're searching cinahl after you've already searched pubmed you won't see duplicate abstracts but will be able to focus on what's unique in cinahl it also has a filter for peer-reviewed articles and for literacy level cinahl is found in the quick fix section of the HS CL databases page now getting more specifically into some databases that would be particularly useful for health outcomes and policies research econ.

Lynne is the major economic literature database some health religions and X by E Connelly include health care management science health economics policy and law health policy and planning health services research journal of health economics journal of mental health policy and economics and Journal of Neuroscience psychology and economics in addition to journal articles econ light contains some books dissertations working papers and book reviews. Econ lit does have a controlled vocabulary called subject codes and allows for searching by geographic descriptors eco light can be found throughout co host web databases under the Quick Books section of the HS CL databases page or under the all library databases A through Z. List link hacia are applied science social sciences index and abstracts is designed to serve the information needs of health care and social service professionals and covers various practical problems of society including mental illness and addiction and health services policy and practices. It includes abstracts of articles from 1976 to the present covering 500 journals from 16 countries. It does happen to control vocabulary called the Aussie at thesaurus and like cinahl allows you to limit to peer-reviewed articles. Sanna can be found through the all library databases. A through Z link health business full text focuses on all aspects of Health Administration including medical law public health health economics and policy facility management marketing and finance. This is a more recent databases covering only 1985 to the present in addition to journals health. Business full-text also indexes magazines and trade publications although it has no control vocabulary. It does have the ability to search for relevant images and illustrations health business.

EBSCOhost web databases under the Quick Pick section of HS CL databases page or under the all HS sialic databases link congressional publications also known simply as congressional is a ProQuest database covering legislative histories bills laws regulations daily congressional recordings and rules and political news. This resource also includes sense of information on members of Congress including their social media posts.
